Sterling Highway is home to a number of locally-owned restaurants, each serving up generous hospitality alongside delicious dishes. Start your journey at the Caribou Family Restaurant at the southern tip of the highway. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, try the chicken fried steak, ground sirloin, pork chops and liver and onions platter.

Next is Acapulco Mexican Restaurant with oversized margaritas and your favorites from enchiladas and tacos to sizzling fajitas and sopapillas. Keep heading north along the highway to the China Sea Restaurant, a welcome touch of Asian influence paired with the freshest seafood Alaska can offer.

A Gastro Journey in Less Than a Mile

Odie’s Deli will come up on your right, a mecca for soups, sandwiches, cookies and caffeine. Try the French toast sticks, build your own sandwich, and add on the homemade soup of the day or fresh, big salad. Ginger’s Restaurant is known for their burgers and is kiddy-corner to Odie’s. You won’t find juicier, fresher burgers anywhere in Alaska.

A double whammy of Mexican offerings is next with Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant and Señor Panchos side by side. Finally, it’s ido Restaurant for all American fare like mozz sticks and onion rings for appetizers followed by pork chops, New York steaks and homemade pie à la mode for dessert. Still feeling hungry? Head a little more north and you’ll find St. Elias Brewing for a nightcap.
